It has been a while since I posted, life has been crazy. Monkey is walking like a champ now. We have been going to Musical Munchkins every Wednesday for the last 5 weeks. He loves the music and seeing all of his little friends. He is one of the youngest in the class, but he holds his own. Today is monkey’s uncle’s birthday. We will be seeing him next month at our cousin’s wedding. I am sort of dreading the flight with a rambunctious 16 month old, but maybe monkey will surprise me!
Monkey has been learning to walk slowly but surely. He cruises along the furniture like a maniac, pushes his walking toys, and holds the tip of your finger, but has been very hesitant to walk on his own. He likes to go in the grass and take a couple steps to mama, but then he prefers to fall down and crawl to wherever he wants to be. The last couple days though, he has been taking more and more steps on his own. Today, he walked halfway across Nonna and Pop Pop’s deck and he was so proud of himself! Momma was proud of him too!!
OK, so it wasn’t quite a stage, more like a dance floor, but there were over 100 people watching. Monkey was the ring bearer in his uncle Frank and aunt Theresa’s wedding on Saturday. Mommy pulled him in an awesome wagon that had an attached cooler so monkey had a stock of snacks and drinks. Everyone commented on how adorable and well behaved he was throughout. He took a short nap in the car while we were having dinner and then he was back to PARTAY!! Mommy had quite a bit to drink that night so daddy was on monkey duty the next morning.
So, on Tuesday morning, I woke up at around 9 surprised that monkey was not up yet. I went to the bathroom and called my mom because there was a possibility that we would go down to NJ to visit. At 1030 when monkey still wasn’t up, I got worried and went in to check. I looked in the crib…no monkey! I looked into the laundry hamper…upside down, pantless monkey! I freaked out, but he is perfectly fine. What I think happened is that he took off his pants, threw them in the hamper, then decided he wanted them back and dove in. I am not really sure. Suffice it to say, the crib mattress is now at the lowest setting.
I can’t sleep and just realized that I didn’t post monkey’s stats from his 12 month appointment. He is 22 pounds 13 ounces and 30 inches long. That puts him right around the 50th percentile. The dr. said he is “perfect”. 20/20 vision too! Are we sure this is my kid?
My monkey turned one last Thursday. His party wasn’t until Saturday, but I was told that he had to have a cake and blow out his candle on his actual birthday. I went to Shoprite and bought him vanilla cupcakes with chocolate icing AND chocolate cupcakes with vanilla icing. I didn’t know which one he would like since he hadn’t tried them before. He started out gently picking the sprinkles off the top, but eventually he dove in with both hands. He had so much fun!
On Friday, my cousin Becca came in from Texas and monkey got his first haircut by nonna. He looks like such a big boy now! We had monkey’s second mini party at Big Mike’s and he ate almost an entire slice of pizza.
Saturday we had his construction party at Warwick County Park. It was quite chilly, but the rain held off and we had almost 75 people show up to celebrate my baby boy. This post is getting long and I want to add some pictures, so I will put his stats in another post.
Today was my first official mother’s day. Last year I missed celebrating by 3 days. Last year it was on May 9 and my wonderful monkey came on May 12. Yup, that means that in 4 days, I will have a one year old. A happy, healthy, bouncing, smiling, loving, amazing one year old. I thank god everyday that he is here and healthy. Our good friends just welcomed their baby boy on April 22. Matthew Ryan is adorable, but he wasn’t due until August 3. He was 15 weeks early and he is fighting every single day to stay healthy. I know in my heart that he will be fine, but it puts things into perspective. Monkey’s tantrums make me glad that he has strong lungs and the ability to be a cranky little boy. Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms in my life.
I know I have been MIA again, but first monkey got sick and then my baba passed away. Baba is a yiddish word for grandma. My dad’s mom had a stroke on March 26 that she never recovered from. She passed away surrounded by loved ones on Sunday morning, March 27. I flew to Canada for the funeral and mourning period. It is very hard for me to believe that she is gone. Whenever we parted ways, she would only say “so long”, never “goodbye”. Due to that, I never got to say my final goodbye. I have to stop myself from dialing her number when monkey does something cute that I know she would have loved to hear about. I know she is with my zaida (grandpa) now, her one true love. That provides a small comfort.
On Saturday evening, monkey was sitting in his highchair
eating dinner and being his happy, adorable self. M and I
thought it was so cute that he kept kicking his little legs in the
air UNTIL I saw the poop face. He didn’t strain at all, he
just let loose! All of a sudden there was poop oozing out the
side of his diaper and a puddle of poop forming next to him.
I called M and he cleaned the chair while I whisked the laughing
monkey into the bathtub. On Sunday, M got stuck at work due to all
of the rain and monkey got to play at Nana and Pop Pop’s while
mommy was at work. I had told M’s parents about the events of
the day before and we had all had a good laugh. Since M
wasn’t coming home, monkey and I stayed for dinner with Nana, Pop
Pop, and Uncle Chris. I started smelling a strangely sweet
yet fecal smell. I went to grab monkey and my hand hit a wet,
mooshy spot on his onesie. You guessed it! He had done
it again! M ended up not getting home from work until 4:30 PM on
Monday after going in at 7 AM on Sunday. He was obviously
tired so he lay down in bed, but not before using the
restroom. About an hour later, he woke up feeling very
nauseous. He lay there for a few minutes burping and then got
up, went into the bathroom, and began to make noises that sounded
like aliens were invading his body. Suffice it to say, he
vomited…ALOT! Repeatedly. Too many explosions for my
liking. Hopefully both of my boys will be feeling better
tomorrow and neither of them will have shared their germs with
